The history of Firestone dates back to 1891 when the town was founded as a coal mining settlement. In 1907, the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company opened up a mine in the area which helped to create more jobs and attract more people to the area. After World War II, Firestone grew rapidly and by 2000 the population had grown to over 7,000 people.
