Georgetown, Delaware is a charming small town located in the heart of Sussex County. It is the county seat, and home to approximately 7,000 people. Georgetown has been around since 1791 and was originally named “The Town of Georgetown” by an act of the Delaware General Assembly.
Georgetown is known for its historic downtown district which features Victorian-style buildings and cobblestone streets. The area is also home to many antique stores and specialty shops. The town also houses a few restaurants, cafes, and bars that offer a variety of different cuisines for visitors to enjoy.
The downtown area is also home to many festivals throughout the year such as the Annual Apple Scrapple Festival which celebrates the region’s agricultural heritage with music, food, crafts, and more. Other popular festivals include the Seaford Summerfest which takes place each summer along High Street in Seaford and features live music, crafts vendors, food trucks, rides and more.
Georgetown is home to several parks that provide outdoor recreation opportunities including Woodland Park which offers playgrounds, picnic areas, walking trails and more; Georgetown Circle Park which features an outdoor amphitheater; Circle Park Nature Preserve which offers fishing opportunities; Killens Pond State Park where visitors can enjoy boating or swimming in the pond; Trap Pond State Park for camping or hiking; Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge for bird watching; and many more parks throughout Georgetown that cater to all sorts of activities.
