It is situated in the Coeur d’Alene metropolitan statistical area, which is part of the Spokane-Spokane Valley-Coeur d’Alene combined statistical area. Hayden has a population of approximately 13,000 people and covers an area of about 7.3 square miles.

The city was founded in 1907 and named after the railroad engineer who built the railroad line through the area, John E. Hayden. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountain views and lush green forests that make it an ideal place for outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and camping.
