Conyers, Georgia Population, Hospitals, Airports, and Schools

Conyers, incorporated February 16, 1854, is the county seat of Rockdale County. The city was named for a local physician who donated a right-of-way for the first railroad and a lot in town for the railway depot.

In addition, most of downtown Conyers, both the residential and business districts, as well as the Dial Mill (1830) and the first Rockdale County Jail (1897) are listed on the National Register.

Conyers was the venue for the equestrian and mountain-biking events for the 1996 Olympics. The International Horse Park was constructed for the events.

One of Conyer’s main attractions is the Monastery of the Holy Ghost founded in 1944. These monks are self-sufficient and their greenhouse offers the largest selection of bonsai accessories in the nation.
