Chatsworth, Georgia Population, Hospitals, Airports, and Schools

Chatsworth, incorporated August 18, 1906, is the county seat of Murray County. The city’s name was said to be taken from a sign that fell off a railroad freight car, with the name “Chatsworth” printed on it. The sign was then placed on a pole and used to designate the city. However, some say the city was named after a railroad official.

The Murray County courthouse located in Chatsworth was constructed in 1917 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Chief Van House, built by Cherokee Chief James Vann, is decorated with Cherokee hand carvings and features a cantilevered stairway and many antiques. This Federal-style brick mansion is referred to as the “Showplace of the Cherokee Nation”.

Another Chatsworth attraction is Fort Mountain Park. The 1,932-acre state park has a number of trails for visitors to explore, in addition to its camping sites. This park has an ancient 855-foot long rock wall, which stands on the highest point of the mountain.
