Jackson, Georgia is a small town located in the heart of Butts County, approximately 45 miles south of Atlanta. With a population of approximately 5,000 people, Jackson is an idyllic Southern town with a rich history and plenty of charm.

The town was founded in 1828 by Thomas J. Lamar, who named it after his father-in-law, James Jackson. Since then, the city has grown steadily and is now home to several businesses and industries.

The downtown area of Jackson has retained its old-fashioned charm with quaint shops and restaurants lining the streets. Many of these have been in business for generations and are still run by the same families that opened them years ago. The city also boasts a lush park system which includes multiple playgrounds and walking trails that offer residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy nature while exploring the city’s history.

The largest employers in the city are Butts County Schools and Spalding Regional Medical Center. The City of Jackson, the county seat of Butts County, was incorporated on December 26, 1826. The city was named in honor of President Andrew Jackson.

The Butts County courthouse, built in 1898, has Victorian-style stairs, marble floors and the courtroom still intact. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jackson hosts several festivals annually including the Scottish Festival (April), the Native American Festival (September) and Civil War Days (November).

High Falls State Park and Indian Springs State Park provide outdoor recreation to visitors of this area. Indian Springs State is one of the oldest parks in the country.
