Mansfield, Massachusetts is located in the southeastern part of the state and is part of Bristol County. It is bordered by Foxboro, Norton, Easton, and Attleboro. The town has a total area of 32.3 square miles and its population was estimated to be 23,184 in 2019.

The climate in Mansfield is typical for New England with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is around 76 degrees Fahrenheit while January has an average temperature of about 24 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year with an average annual precipitation of 48 inches.

Mansfield was first settled by Europeans in 1658 when it was known as “Stoughtonham”. It was officially incorporated as a town in 1775 and named after Colonel Josiah Mansfield who had served during the French and Indian War. The town experienced rapid industrial growth during the 19th century when several factories opened up such as a cotton mill, paper mill, tannery, and shoe factory.

Mansfield has had a long history of political involvement dating back to its early days when it actively supported independence from Great Britain. Today it operates under an open Town Meeting form of government where Town Meeting members are elected annually to serve three-year terms.

The economy of Mansfield is largely based on retail trade and manufacturing which accounts for about 25% of all jobs within the city limits according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Other important industries include health care, education services, construction, administrative services and social assistance.

Education-wise Mansfield is served by two public school districts: Mansfield Public Schools (K-12) and Foxboro Regional Charter School (K-8).
