Utica, Mississippi is situated in the southwestern corner of Hinds County. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from 35-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Utica has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1837; it was originally part of the Choctaw Nation before becoming part of the United States. The city was an important transportation hub for goods and services during the Civil War. It was also home to several prominent abolitionists and civil rights activists who fought for African-American rights and suffrage.
