Tylertown is located in southwestern Mississippi and is part of Walthall County. It is situated in a rural area, with plenty of open space and natural beauty. The climate of Tylertown is warm with mild winters and hot summers. The city experiences an average of 56 inches of rain each year, mainly during the summer months.

Tylertown was established in 1856 and named after a local family who settled in the area. The town quickly grew, becoming an important stop on the New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railroad line. In recent years, Tylertown has become more industrialized as several new manufacturing businesses have set up shop in the city.

Politically, Tylertown leans Democratic but also has a strong Republican presence. Over the years, numerous prominent politicians have called Tylertown home including former Governor William F. Winter and current U.S Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.
