Verdi, Nevada is a small unincorporated community located in Washoe County, Nevada. It is situated along the Truckee River, about 10 miles west of Reno and 25 miles east of Lake Tahoe. The population was 1,419 as of 2019.

Verdi was founded in 1868 by Thomas Dangberg, who saw the potential for a milling operation to take advantage of the river’s water power and transport lumber from the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains. The town was named after Giuseppe Verdi, an Italian composer whose music was popular at the time.

The town has remained relatively small and rural throughout its history. It is home to a number of small businesses including restaurants, a grocery store, gas station and convenience store. There are also several churches in town and a post office which serves as a gathering place for locals to catch up on news or gossip.

The area around Verdi is renowned for its outdoor recreation opportunities. The Truckee River provides excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow trout and other species while the nearby mountains offer hiking trails and breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area. Additionally, there are several ski resorts located within an hour’s drive from Verdi that offer skiing opportunities year-round.
