Despite its size, however, Walstonburg has a rich history and charm that has attracted visitors for many years.

The town was first settled in 1777 by Quakers who were seeking religious freedom for their families. The town was founded as “Walston’s Town” after William Walston, one of the original settlers. Over time, it was shortened to its current name: Walstonburg.

The main street of Walstonburg is lined with historic buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries that have been carefully restored to their former glory. Many of these buildings are now home to small businesses such as restaurants, antique stores, and art galleries. The town also contains several churches including the First Presbyterian Church which was built in 1851 and is still active today.

On the outskirts of town lies an abundance of natural beauty including wetlands and woodlands that provide opportunities for bird-watching and other outdoor activities such as fishing and hiking. The nearby Neuse River provides additional recreational opportunities including kayaking, canoeing, tubing and swimming.

Walstonburg also offers a variety of cultural attractions including museums dedicated to local history and art galleries showcasing local artists’ work. Every year on Memorial Day Weekend, the town hosts its annual Strawberry Festival which celebrates local agriculture with arts & crafts vendors, live music performances and plenty of delicious strawberry treats!

The people who call Walstonburg home are proud to be part of this close-knit community where everyone knows each other by name. There is an undeniable sense of pride here that can be felt when walking down Main Street or attending one of the many festivals throughout the year celebrating this small but special town in North Carolina’s rural heartland.
