Tipton is a small town located in western Oklahoma, just west of Oklahoma City and near the Texas border. It is home to approximately 1,500 people and sits on the banks of the Washita River. The town was founded in 1894 by settlers from Missouri who were looking for a new place to call home.

Tipton has a rich history that dates back to its foundation. It was one of the first towns in Oklahoma Territory to be incorporated, and it served as an important trading post for settlers moving westward during the late 19th century. The town’s population grew steadily throughout the years, reaching its peak in 1910 with nearly 2,000 residents.

Today, Tipton is known as a quiet farming community with a strong sense of community pride. The local economy is largely supported by agriculture, including wheat farming and cattle ranching. Despite its small size, Tipton has become quite popular among tourists due to its charming downtown area filled with historic buildings and interesting shops.

The downtown area is filled with many historic buildings dating back to Tipton’s early days. There are several churches in town, including First Baptist Church which was built in 1895 and features Victorian-style architecture; St John’s Catholic Church which was built in 1902; and First Christian Church which was constructed in 1910. There are also several other historic buildings such as Tipton City Hall (built 1905), the old post office (1906), an old bank building (1907), an old fire station (1908) and several other structures dating back before 1920 that have been restored over the years.

Tipton also offers plenty of recreational activities for visitors such as fishing at nearby Lake Murray or hiking along one of the many trails around town like Redbud Trail or Cedar Creek Trailhead Trail which offers stunning views of nearby mountainsides covered with redbud trees and cedar forests that stretch out into eternity. There are also two public parks in Tipton: Kiwanis Park which features a playground, picnic areas and volleyball courts; and Riverside Park which features a walking trail along Washita River perfect for bird watching or simply enjoying nature up close.

Tipton may be small but it certainly packs a punch when it comes to history, culture, outdoor recreation opportunities – all wrapped up neatly within its quaint downtown area that provides plenty of charm for those who come through this western Oklahoma town’s doors.
