Mansfield, Pennsylvania is located in the northern part of the state, just south of the New York border. It is a small town with a population of around 8,000 people. The geography is mainly rolling hills and farmland, with some wooded areas. The climate is mostly temperate with four distinct seasons. In the winter months, temperatures can reach below zero and snowfall is common. Summers are mild and pleasant.

The history of Mansfield dates back to the 1700s when it was first settled by settlers from England and Scotland. It was incorporated as a borough in 1845 and became an important stop along the stagecoach route between Philadelphia and Buffalo. During this time many businesses were established in town including banks, mills, stores, churches, schools, and hotels. By 1885 Mansfield had become one of the most important towns in Tioga County due to its booming economy and population growth.

Politically speaking Mansfield has always been a conservative area that leans Republican in elections. The Mayor-Council form of government has been used since its incorporation in 1845 which allows for citizens to elect their leaders every four years at local elections held in May.

The economy of Mansfield has historically been based on agriculture such as dairy farming and timber production as well as small manufacturing businesses such as furniture factories and machine shops.
