Richmond, Virginia is located in the Piedmont region of the state, east of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers and mild winters. The city’s history dates back to 1607, when it was founded by English colonists. It served as the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War and today is home to numerous historical sites such as St. John’s Church and the Virginia State Capitol. Politically, Richmond is a largely Democratic-leaning city that voted for Joe Biden in 2020 with over 75% of the vote.
