Hampton, Arkansas is a small city located in Calhoun County, Arkansas. It is situated on the south bank of the Ouachita River and is approximately 30 miles southwest of Little Rock. As of the 2010 census, the population was 631.

The city was founded in 1881 by William B. Hampton and was named after him. The original settlers were mostly farmers who grew cotton and other crops on the fertile land along the Ouachita River. It quickly developed into a thriving river port town with many businesses such as a sawmill, gristmill, brickyard, cotton gin, blacksmith shop and general store.

The town’s economy has since diversified to include manufacturing and retail stores. The main industries are timber and wood products, aluminum die-casting, plastics manufacturing and food processing companies. There are also several small businesses in town including restaurants, antique shops, gift shops and more.

The city of Hampton boasts numerous attractions for visitors to enjoy including historic sites such as the old post office building which dates back to 1909; Fort Hindman which was built during the Civil War; and several other historic buildings such as churches, schools and homes that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are also plenty of recreational activities available including fishing along the Ouachita River or hiking through nearby forests like DeGray Lake State Park or Hot Springs National Park.

Hampton also offers its residents plenty of opportunities for education with Calhoun County Public Schools operating several elementary schools within city limits as well as a middle school and high school located nearby in neighboring towns like Camden or Fordyce. The University of Arkansas at Monticello is also within close proximity for those seeking higher education options beyond high school graduation.

Overall Hampton is a great place to live with its quaint atmosphere combined with modern amenities that make life convenient for its residents while still offering plenty of things to do both indoors and outdoors year round! With its rich history combined with all it has to offer today it’s no wonder why so many people call Hampton home.
