Blairsville, the county seat of Union County, is the only incorporated community in the county. The city was incorporated December 26, 1835. Blairsville was named for Francis Preston Blair, Sr. from Kentucky, editor of the Washington Globe.
The Union County courthouse in Blairsville was constructed in 1899 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Brasstown Bald Visitor Center is located on the highest mountain in Georgia at 4,784 feet. This center offers films, exhibits and an observation deck with a panoramic view of four states.
