Connecticut, located in the northeastern United States and part of the New England region, is divided into 8 counties, although they serve primarily as geographical designations rather than governing bodies. The state includes 169 incorporated cities, towns, and boroughs, with Bridgeport being the largest city, followed by New Haven, Stamford, and Hartford, the state capital. Connecticut has a population of approximately 3.6 million people, making it the 29th most populous state in the U.S. Despite its small size, covering an area of about 5,543 square miles, Connecticut is densely populated and ranks 48th in land area but fourth in population density. Connecticut is known for its prestigious educational institutions, with Yale University in New Haven being one of the world’s most renowned Ivy League schools. Other notable higher education institutions include the University of Connecticut (UConn) with its main campus in Storrs, Wesleyan University in Middletown, and Trinity College in Hartford.
