Cottage Grove, Oregon is a small city located in the southern Willamette Valley, approximately 25 miles south of Eugene and 15 miles northeast of Springfield. It is part of Lane County and has a population of approximately 9,700 people. The city is a popular tourist destination due to its many recreational activities, including fishing, kayaking, camping, hiking and golfing.

The city was founded in 1852 by pioneers who were looking for an area to settle. The first settlers named the area Cottage Grove because it reminded them of their homes back in the Midwest. In the early years of Cottage Grove’s development it was mostly an agricultural community but over time it has grown into a thriving city with many businesses and services.

The downtown area of Cottage Grove is full of historic buildings that have been preserved and maintained over the years. Many shops and restaurants line Main Street which provides visitors with plenty to explore on a day trip or weekend getaway. The town also boasts numerous parks and trails for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy.

The nearby Coast Fork Willamette River offers visitors plenty of opportunities for fishing, boating, rafting and kayaking as well as some great spots for swimming. In addition to water activities there are plenty of other recreational opportunities such as golfing at one of several local golf courses or horseback riding at one of several nearby stables.

Cottage Grove hosts several popular events throughout the year such as the annual Covered Bridge Festival which takes place on Memorial Day weekend each year and features live music, food vendors, arts & crafts booths, car shows and more! Other popular events include the annual Oregon Jamboree music festival which takes place every summer in July as well as a number of other events such as craft fairs throughout the year.

Cottage Grove is also home to several museums including Bohemia Mining Days Museum which celebrates the history of mining in Oregon during its gold rush days; The Historic Pioneer Museum which showcases artifacts from early settlers; The Cottage Theatre which puts on stage plays all year long; And finally there’s also the Umpqua Discovery Center which offers educational programs about local wildlife species like fish hatcheries & salmon runs!
