Dixie, Washington is a small unincorporated community located in the Spokane River Valley in eastern Washington. It is situated on the banks of the Spokane River, just north of the city of Spokane. The area has been inhabited since the late 1800s and has a long and interesting history.

The town was originally called “Dixie” after a post office established there in 1891, but it was later changed to “Dixieland” due to its proximity to Spokane. The town was first settled by farmers and loggers who came to take advantage of the fertile land. As the population grew, so did businesses such as sawmills, grist mills and general stores. By 1900, Dixie had become an important stop on the Great Northern Railway line between Spokane and Sandpoint, Idaho.

Today Dixie remains an agricultural community with many farms still in operation. Residents enjoy access to nearby rivers for fishing, boating and swimming as well as hiking trails through nearby forests. There are several small parks within town limits that provide residents with places to picnic or relax by their campfires.

The main street of Dixie is lined with historic buildings that have been restored or remodeled into restaurants and shops such as antique stores, art galleries, cafes and even a winery tasting room. These buildings are part of what makes Dixie unique from other small towns in Washington State; they provide a glimpse into its past while also offering modern amenities for visitors and locals alike.

Despite its small size, Dixie is home to several churches including an old country church built in 1891 that is still used for services today. There are also two schools serving grades K-12 which offer many educational opportunities for students living in or around Dixie .
