Douglasville is the county seat for Douglas County and is nicknamed “The Dynamic City”. The city was established on February 25, 1875. The city’s downtown district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The majority of the buildings are one and two story brick structures from the mid-19th century into the mid-20th century.
The courthouse currently used in Douglasville is the city’s third one. The two previous courthouses were destroyed by fire in 1896 and 1956.
Annually, Douglasville hosts numerous festivals and events including Taste of Douglasville, the Fourth of July Parade, the Halloween Road Race and Christmas on the Plaza.
Sweetwater Creek State Park is located in Douglasville. The park covers 2,020 acres with a five mile walking trail, picnic shelters, fishing docks, bait shop, boat rentals, Civil War ruins and nature preserve. Arts and crafts festivals and Civil War reenactments are also held at the park.
