Forest Park, located in Clayton County, was incorporated as the town of Forest Park in 1908. The city was named for the number of parks located in the town.

Attractions in Forest Park include the Atlanta State Farmer’s Market, hailed to be the nation’s largest open-air market open year round. Besides selling produce, the market sells flowers, shrubs, trees and gift items.

The Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, built in 1895 and located in Forest Park, is an historic monument that includes a tour of the sanctuary, genealogy library and original stained glass windows.

Forest Park is home to the Honorable Bill Lee, the longest serving state legislator in Georgia. Mr. Lee served in the State House of Representatives from 1957 to 1966 and from 1969 to 1999.

Forest Park is home to United States Army base Fort Gillem. Thousands of soldiers have trained at Fort Gillem. Fort Gillem has served as a supplier throughout World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Berlin Airlift, the Cuban missile Crisis and the Vietnam War.
