The geography of Fultondale is mostly flat and the city is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. It has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters.

The history of Fultondale goes back to the early 1800s when settlers first arrived in the area. The city was officially incorporated as a town in 1845 and later as a city in 1945.
