Gainesville, Alabama is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state. With a population of just over 2,000 people, Gainesville is part of the larger Cullman County area. The geography of Gainesville is mainly rolling hills and farmland with some forests in the area. The climate is generally mild with temperatures ranging from mild winters to hot summers.
Gainesville has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1834 by settlers from Tennessee and Georgia. It was originally named after General Edmund P. Gaines who fought in the War of 1812 and later became the Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the Southwestern Territory. During the Civil War, Gainesville was an important stop on a stagecoach route that connected Chattanooga to Nashville, Tennessee.
