Gideon, Missouri is a small town located in southeast Missouri, about 50 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee. It is situated in Stoddard County and has a population of approximately 1,400 people.

Gideon was founded in 1873 and named after Gideon L. Johnson, an early settler. The town’s economy was initially based on agriculture and timber harvesting, but it has since diversified to include manufacturing and retail businesses. The area is known for its rich soil, which is ideal for farming cotton, soybeans, corn, wheat and other crops.

The town center features a historic courthouse square with several stores and restaurants surrounding it. There are also two churches: the First Baptist Church of Gideon and the Assembly of God Church. Other notable landmarks include the Gideon City Park, which features a playground and picnic area; the Gideon Public Library; and the historic Gideon High School building.

The town hosts an annual arts festival each October that draws thousands of visitors from near and far to enjoy music performances from local bands as well as art exhibitions from local artists.
