Girard, Ohio is located in Trumbull county in the northeastern part of the state. It has a total area of 4.8 square miles and is bordered by Liberty Township to the north, Niles Township to the east, and Youngstown to the south and west. The city has a humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from 25°F in January to 79°F in July.

The history of Girard dates back to 1803 when it was founded by John Gray, an early settler who purchased land from the Connecticut Land Company. The city was incorporated as a village in 1867 and became a city in 1902. In its early years, Girard was known for its coal mining industry which provided jobs for many locals until its decline in the 1950s.

Today, Girard is governed by a mayor-council system with six council members representing four wards. The city’s economy is largely based on manufacturing and services such as retail trade and healthcare facilities.
