Hamburg, Arkansas is located in Ashley County in the southeastern part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Saline River and is part of an area known as The Lakes Region. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Hamburg has a rich history, first being settled by Native Americans and later by settlers from Europe. In 1851, it was incorporated as a city, and today it serves as the county seat for Ashley County. Politically Hamburg leans to the right, voting Republican in most elections.

The economy of Hamburg is largely based on agriculture, with farming being a major industry in the region.
