Hawthorne, California is a city located in Los Angeles County. It is bordered by Redondo Beach to the north, Lawndale to the east, Gardena and Inglewood to the south, and El Segundo to the west. With a population of approximately 86,000 people, Hawthorne is one of the larger cities in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County.

The city’s origin dates back to 1876 when it was first established as a small farming community. It was named after pioneer Daniel Hawthorne who had purchased land from local Native American tribes for agricultural purposes. In 1905, Hawthorne was officially incorporated as a city and has since grown into an urban center with a variety of businesses and industries located within its borders.

Hawthorne’s economy is largely driven by its diverse manufacturing sector which includes aerospace companies such as SpaceX, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon. The city also contains numerous retail stores and restaurants along its main thoroughfare, Imperial Highway. Additionally, Hawthorne is home to several notable attractions including Hollywood Park Racetrack, Del Aire Park, Jack Dunster Marine Life Center and Hawthorne Mall Shopping Center.
