Leominster is a city in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. It is located along the North Nashua River and is part of the Fitchburg-Leominster metropolitan area. The population of Leominster was 41,303 as of the 2010 census, making it the largest municipality in Worcester County and the second largest in Massachusetts after Boston. Geographically, Leominster lies between two hills: Monoosnoc Hill to the east and Packachoag Hill to the west. The climate in Leominster is humid continental with cold winters and hot summers.

The history of Leominster dates back to 1653 when it was first settled by Europeans as part of Lancaster. In 1740, John Lakin set up a sawmill on Millers River which helped to spur growth in the area. In 1813, Leominster was officially incorporated as a town and began to grow rapidly due to its location along major transportation routes such as railroads and canals. By 1848, it had become an important center for shoe manufacturing which brought economic prosperity to the city and helped make it one of Massachusetts’s most important industrial cities.
