Lynnfield, Massachusetts is a town located in Essex County that is bordered by Reading and Wakefield to the north, Lynn to the east, Saugus to the south, and North Reading and Peabody to the west. The population of Lynnfield was 11,596 as of 2020.
The area that is now known as Lynnfield was originally part of Lynn (originally known as Saugus). In 1782, it became an independent town called South Reading. The name was changed to Lynnfield in 1814.
The town has a long history of being a farming community. As early as 1637 there were farms located in what is now Lynnfield. The first settlers were from England and came in search of religious freedom.
Lynnfield has several places of interest for visitors including Bunker Hill Monument, which marks the location of the Battle of Bunker Hill during the American Revolution; Coffin’s Corner Historic District which contains twelve buildings from the late 1700s and early 1800s; and Summer Street Historic District which includes two 19th century churches along with several homes from this period.
