Madison, North Carolina is a small town located in Rockingham County, about 15 miles north of Greensboro. The population is approximately 2,200 people according to the 2010 census. Madison is situated in the northwest corner of the state near the Virginia border and has a temperate climate with mild winters and hot summers.

The town was originally founded in 1792 by Thomas Madison and was named after him. It was incorporated as a village in 1872 and as a town in 1899. In its early days, Madison served as an important trading post on the Great Wagon Road which connected Pennsylvania to Georgia.

Politically, Madison has been reliably Republican since the beginning of its incorporation as a village. The current mayor is John Smith who was elected in 2018 with almost 70% of the vote.
