Parma is located in Canyon County, Idaho. It is situated at the junction of the Snake River and its tributary, the Boise River. The city lies in a semi-arid climate zone, with hot summers and mild winters, and an average annual precipitation of just over 12 inches. Parma was founded in 1885 as a farming community and has since become a thriving small city of about 2,500 people.

Politically, Parma is part of Canyon County and is represented by county commissioners. The city also has its own mayor who serves as the head of the local government.
