Point Lay, Alaska is a small town located on the Chukchi Sea coast. It is situated on the western coast of Alaska’s North Slope, approximately 280 miles northwest of Barrow. Point Lay has a subarctic climate with long, cold winters and short summers. Temperatures typically range from -20 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the year. The town has a population of about 500 people and is mostly inhabited by Inupiat Eskimos.

The economy of Point Lay is based on subsistence hunting and fishing, as well as oil exploration in the nearby waters. The town also receives money from the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The local school district serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade at one elementary school and one high school.

The town has several landmarks, including the Point Lay Fish Camp, which was established in 1974 to provide subsistence food for local families; a post office that was built in 1978; and a traditional Inupiat village site located just north of the community. There are also several churches located within the town limits that provide spiritual guidance to its residents.
