Ponca City is located in Kay County, Oklahoma, and is situated along the Arkansas River. The city has a temperate climate with average temperatures ranging from the mid-30s to mid-80s Fahrenheit throughout the year. Snowfall is common in the winter months, while summer months are generally hot and humid. The city was founded by the Ponca Tribe of Native Americans in 1893, who named it after their tribe. It grew quickly due to its location along the Arkansas River and its proximity to oil fields.
