Ponca City is located in Kay County, Oklahoma, and is situated along the Arkansas River. The city has a temperate climate with average temperatures ranging from the mid-30s to mid-80s Fahrenheit throughout the year. Snowfall is common in the winter months, while summer months are generally hot and humid. The city was founded by the Ponca Tribe of Native Americans in 1893, who named it after their tribe. It grew quickly due to its location along the Arkansas River and its proximity to oil fields.

Politically, Ponca City is a part of Oklahoma’s 4th congressional district and is represented by Republican Frank Lucas in the U.S. House of Representatives. The city also has a mayor-council form of government with an elected mayor and six council members representing each ward in Ponca City.
