Riverdale, one of the largest cities in Clayton County, is located about 10 miles south of Atlanta. The city was incorporated on July 30, 1908 and named for the Rivers family, who gave land to the railroad that once ran through the area.

The Hindu Temple of Atlanta, located in Riverdale, is an ornate temple where followers of the Hindu religion worship and tours are available to the public.

Riverdale is the original location of the Atlanta and Florida Railroad, which was consolidated into the Southern Railway in 1895.
