Roscoe, South Dakota is a small town in the southeastern part of the state. It has a population of just over 1,000 people and is located about 30 miles from Sioux Falls. The town was founded in 1881 by settlers from Iowa and Minnesota. It was named after Roscoe Conkling, a prominent 19th-century politician from New York.
The town is surrounded by rolling hills, prairies and woodlands. The nearby Big Sioux River provides ample fishing opportunities. There are also several small lakes and streams that offer swimming, boating, and other recreational activities.
The main street in Roscoe is lined with historic buildings that have been around since the town’s founding. These include the old post office building, which now serves as a museum; an old Lutheran church; an opera house; and several other businesses.
