Rosebud, South Dakota has a population of approximately 2,000 people. It is the county seat of Todd County and is located in south central South Dakota, approximately 60 miles south of Pierre. The city is situated on the banks of Rosebud Creek and lies along the Missouri River.

The climate in Rosebud is typical of the Great Plains region with hot summers and cold winters. Average summer temperatures range from 75°F to 95°F while winter temperatures range from 0°F to 25°F. Precipitation averages at about 16 inches per year.

Rosebud was founded in 1876 by settlers from Wisconsin who were searching for fertile land on which to raise crops and livestock. The city was originally known as Rosebud Junction before it was incorporated in 1889. Since then, it has been an important center for trade and commerce in the region, serving as a major hub for transportation between Pierre and Sturgis on the other side of the river.
