Schofield Barracks is a United States Army installation in Hawaii. It is located on the island of Oahu, about twenty miles northwest of Honolulu. The base has been in operation since 1908 and covers an area of approximately 12,000 acres. It is home to the 25th Infantry Division, the 8th Theater Sustainment Command, and several other units and organizations.

The base was originally established as a cavalry post in 1908 by order of President Theodore Roosevelt. The name “Schofield” was chosen in honor of General John McAllister Schofield, who was one of the most influential figures in the development of the modern U.S. Army during his time as Chief of Staff from 1888-1895.

The base has played a significant role throughout its history, serving as an important training center during World War I and World War II and later becoming one of the largest U.S.-controlled military installations in Asia during the Vietnam War era. In addition to its military importance, Schofield Barracks has also become an important part of Hawaiian culture over the years, hosting numerous events such as concerts and festivals that attract thousands annually.

Today, Schofield Barracks continues to serve as an important strategic location for both military operations and training within Hawaii and beyond. The base includes numerous facilities such as barracks for housing soldiers; training areas; recreational facilities; medical centers; shopping centers; a golf course; two museums; a library; chapels; schools (including elementary schools); restaurants; movie theaters; bowling alleys; gyms; parks & playgrounds; swimming pools; tennis courts & softball fields and much more.

Schofield Barracks is also home to several historical sites including Kolekole Pass (a site where soldiers fought against invading forces during World War II), Battery Randolph (an artillery battery that defended Pearl Harbor during World War II) and Mokapu Saddle (the site where Japanese planes were intercepted before they reached Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941).
