Moving to Sherman, Mississippi

Sherman, Mississippi is a small town located in the southeastern part of the state. It lies on the banks of the Pearl River and is just south of Jackson. The town has a population of about 2,000 people and is known for its rural atmosphere and friendly people.

The area around Sherman was first settled by Native Americans, who called it “Peshtukwa” or “the place where there are many trees”. After the Civil War, Sherman became an important stop on the Mississippi Central Railway and eventually grew into a bustling small town with businesses, churches, schools and other amenities.

Today, Sherman is home to several churches including First Baptist Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church and others. The town also has two elementary schools – Northside Elementary School and Southside Elementary School – as well as a middle school – Sherman Middle School – that serves grades seven through nine. In addition to these educational facilities there are also several daycare centers in the area for younger children.

Sherman is also home to some unique attractions such as the historic Red Brick Inn which dates back to 1858 when it served as a stagecoach stop between Jackson and Vicksburg. Today it serves as an inn where guests can stay overnight in one of its six rooms or enjoy dinner at its restaurant. Other attractions in Sherman include The Old Country Store which sells antiques from local artisans; The Railcar Museum which features old railroad cars from around Mississippi; and The Pearl River Nature Park which offers visitors scenic views along with fishing opportunities in its lake or creekside hiking trails complete with wildlife viewing areas.

In addition to these attractions, Sherman also offers its visitors plenty of outdoor recreational activities such as golfing at one of its two local courses: Lakeview Golf Course or Silver Creek Golf Course; boating along the Pearl River; camping at nearby Lake Okatoma State Park; hunting on nearby private land; or visiting one of several nearby parks including Percy Quin State Park or Hugh White State Park both located within easy driving distance from Sherman.

Overall, Sherman is a great place to visit whether you’re looking for outdoor recreation opportunities or just want to relax in this charming small town atmosphere while taking in some local history along with it. With its friendly people, rural charm and plenty of things to do both outdoors and indoors this little Mississippi gem should definitely be on your list when visiting this part of the state.
