South Lyon, Michigan is a small city located in southeastern Oakland County. The population of South Lyon is approximately 11,327 people according to the 2019 census. Geographically, South Lyon is situated about 20 miles northwest of Detroit and 10 miles east of Ann Arbor. The region enjoys a humid continental climate characterized by hot and humid summers and cold winters with moderate snowfall.

The history of South Lyon dates back to the early 1800s when the first settlers arrived in the area. In 1832, the city was officially established as part of Oakland County. For many years, it was a rural farming community until its population started to grow in the late 19th century and early 20th century due to its proximity to Detroit which led to an influx of new residents.

Politically, South Lyon is part of Michigan’s 11th congressional district represented by Democrat Haley Stevens in the House of Representatives and Democrat Gary Peters in the Senate.
