Stringtown is a small, unincorporated community in Atoka County, Oklahoma. Located in the southeastern part of the state, it is situated between the towns of Atoka and Lane along State Highway 43. With a population of just over 200 people as of 2020, Stringtown is a quiet little town surrounded by rolling hills, wooded areas and farmlands.

The history of Stringtown dates back to the late 1800s when it was first settled by settlers from Tennessee and Arkansas. The town was originally known as “Stringer’s Town” after its first postmaster, William Stringer. The name was eventually shortened to “Stringtown” and has been used ever since. In 1903, the town was officially incorporated with its own mayor and city council.

Today, Stringtown remains a small but vibrant community with a unique blend of both rural and urban life. It has all the amenities one would expect from any small town such as a post office, grocery store and several churches including Baptist, Methodist and Pentecostal congregations. There are also several restaurants in town that serve traditional American fare such as barbecue or burgers along with Mexican cuisine like tacos or quesadillas.

The main industry in Stringtown is agriculture with many local farmers growing corn, cotton, soybeans and wheat on their land. There are also several businesses located in the area that provide services to both locals and visitors alike such as auto repair shops or an insurance agency for instance.

Stringtown also has two schools; one for elementary students called “Stringtown Elementary School” which teaches grades K-8th grade while the other is a high school named “Atoka High School” which serves grades 9-12th grade for students living in Atoka County including those from Stringtown itself.

Despite its small size compared to other towns in Oklahoma, Stringtown still maintains its own unique charm that makes it stand out from other towns in the area; be it through its friendly residents or its quaint buildings lining Main Street like an old western movie set – there’s something special about this little corner of Oklahoma that can only be experienced by visiting it yourself.
