The city is situated in the rolling hills and plains of East Texas, with an elevation of 574 feet. The climate is characterized by warm summers, mild winters and high humidity. The history of Sulphur Springs dates back to the early 19th century when it was first established as a trading post for local Native Americans. Later on, it became a stop on the stagecoach line between Dallas and Texarkana. By the late 19th century, Sulphur Springs had become an important regional center for cotton production and rail transportation.
