The town also features numerous museums such as the Museum of the American West which displays artifacts from early settlers and Native Americans who lived in this area before settlement began. Other attractions include Rainbow Terraces, which feature colorful calcium-rich travertine terraces that have been forming since prehistoric times; Wind River Canyon National Recreation Area; and Thermopolis Dinosaur Museum where visitors can learn about prehistoric life by viewing fossilized bones and prints left behind by dinosaurs that roamed this area millions of years ago.

The town has a range of activities for visitors to enjoy such as golfing at either Hot Springs Country Club or Thermopolis Golf Course; fishing on either Wind River or Boysen Reservoir; rock climbing at nearby Sinks Canyon State Park; horseback riding at nearby ranches; camping at any one of several campgrounds around town; or simply soaking up some sun on one of Thermopolis’ many beaches along the Big Horn River.
