Wenden, Arizona is a small unincorporated community located in La Paz County in western Arizona. It is situated along US Route 60, approximately 32 miles east of the city of Parker and 25 miles west of the town of Salome. The population is approximately 500 people.
The town was founded in 1909 by German-American settlers who came to the area looking for a place to farm and raise cattle. The town was originally named “Wenden Station” after the nearby Santa Fe Railroad line that passed through the area. The station became an important stop for travelers, as it provided access to stores and services not available in other nearby towns.
Today, Wenden is still a rural community with much of its original charm intact. The town has several small businesses including a post office, general store, auto repair shop, restaurant, and barber shop. There are also two churches located in Wenden: St Mary’s Catholic Church and the United Methodist Church of Wenden.
Outdoor recreation is popular in Wenden due to its close proximity to several public lands such as the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and Imperial National Wildlife Refuge which feature hiking trails and camping opportunities.
