Geographically, West Simsbury is situated in the north-central part of Connecticut, about 20 miles north of Hartford. The town has a total area of approximately 21 square miles, mostly consisting of rolling hills and forests. It is bordered by Granby to the east, Avon to the south, Canton to the west and Barkhamsted to the north.

West Simsbury has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are usually warm and humid with temperatures averaging around 80 degrees Fahrenheit while winters are cold with temperatures dropping as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The town gets an average of 40 inches of rain per year and 65 inches of snowfall annually.

West Simsbury was first settled in 1720 and incorporated in 1845. The town’s early economy was largely based on farming and lumbering until it developed into a more diversified economy in the late 19th century thanks to its proximity to Hartford. Today, West Simsbury’s economy is mostly composed of small businesses including retail stores, restaurants, financial institutions, engineering firms, medical practices and manufacturing companies.
